VOLUNTEERING OVERSEAS VOLUNTEERING IN THE UK
| Providing Healthcare DoW UK's primary mission is to provide healthcare. The association's volunteers undertake to come to the help of all vulnerable people: victims of natural disasters, famine, diseases (endemic or epidemic, particularly AIDS), victims of armed conflicts, political violence, reugees, displaced people, minority populations, street children, drug users and all people with no access to health care. DoW UK's mission is to stimulate voluntary commitment from all those whose expertise is needed in the field: doctors, nurses, midwives, obstetricians, surgeons, anaesthesists, logisticians, administrators and coordinators. In addition to this, it strives to encourage close working relationships with populations in its care. In 2007, more than 400 medical and non medical volunteers left for a mission overseas. Speaking out We know there is no healing without justice, no enduring aid without civil society. To be effective, DoW UK's mission goes beyond healthcare: from its medical practice and with total independence, e speaks out against impeded access to healthcare and violations of human rights and dignity. The association enters into dialogue with politicians to improve the situation of civilian poplulations.

| VOLUNTEERING IN THE UK Our small team relies heavily on the commitment of its volunteers, both in the office and at our clinic in Bethnal Green. Internships Our interns support our Communications, HR, Fundraising and Finance departments on an ongoing basis. We might have specific projects for which we require additional interns. We take the development of our interns very seriously by offering them the opportunity to learn and take responsibility within the roles from the beginning. Project:London Providing care, support and advocacy for vulnerable and excluded groups in developed countries is a fundamental aspect of our work at DoW UK. DoW UK launched its first healthcare project in January 2006, operating a free medical clinic in the East end of London, helping the city's most vulnerable to access healthcare by providing temporary care and helping them register with the NHS. The clinic is run by teams of multi-disciplinary volunteers, who offer medical and social care as well as a sympathetic ear to all people having difficulty accessing healthcare. Volunteering with Project:London provides medical and non medical professionals in the UK with an excellent opportunity to make a difference in the lives of vulnerable people close to home. Project:London offers a chance to participate in meaningful work without the travel. |
