Case Support Worker Internship

Project:London is an advocacy project established in 2006 which provides  information, advice and practical assistance to vulnerable people to help them access NHS and other services. In order to access the most hard to reach groups Project:London's volunteer teams provide basic healthcare in the interim period until people are able to reach mainstream services. Although assistance to vulnerable people starts at the Project:London clinic, meeting our objectives requires a considerable amount of work "behind the scenes". This position will offer support to service users from the main office.

Please note the position is unpaid and reimburse travel and lunch up to £10 per day available to volunteers and not those who are undertaking this position as a placement that is a prerequisite to their studies.

The responsibilities of the case support worker include:

  • Understanding our service users needs and identifying other support services
  • Longer term case follow up
  • Helping service users with bureaucracy and advocating on their behalf to NHS services
  • Accompanying service users to registration appointments, when necessary

Essential:

  • Desire to help vulnerable migrants
  • Fluency in English
  • Previous experience of working with vulnerable people
  • Non-judgemental attitude towards service users from diverse backgrounds
  • Available to give a 4-6 month commitment for 3 to 5 days per week
  • Good social and communication skills
  • Confident telephone manner

Desirable:

  • Fluency in other languages
  • Confident working with interpreting services
