Jo Grimshaw, a nurse from Guernsey is going to join the Myanmar (Burma) mission as a health advisor. Jo, who will be on her third mission for DOW UK, will be recruiting and training community health workers. The project is responding to the need to rebuild health structures that were devastated by Cyclone Nargis in 2008.
Jo says she is looking forward to the 3 month placement: "I will be training and supporting the health service workers in the area. It is about strengthening the health resources. I will also be recruiting new health workers."
Jo is retired and fully encourages other nurses to follow in her footsteps. "If every nurse did a mission towards the end of their career, nursing - and the world as a whole - would be the better for it. After all, we are a global community and we should be helping each other."
