We have been forced to suspend our activities in Darfur, Sudan, after a resurgance of fighting in the Jebel Mara area.
We condemn the looting of the Feina health centre and request immediate access to the region so that aid organisations can help the 100 000 displaced people.
Doctors of the World (Medecins du Monde) is concerned about the health-related problems caused by the displacement: lack of access to healthcare, inadequate access to drinking water, risk of meningitis outbreaks and a rise in acute malnutrition, especially among children under five.
We request that those involved in the conflict protect the town's healthcare centre, cooperate with medical staff and respect the rights of civilians trapped by the conflict.
Our organisation has been working in Jebel Mara since 2008 to increase access to primary healthcare, improve mother and child health and reduce malnutrition.
We evacuated foreign aid workers from the region on 11 February after fighting broke out in Kidingeer and Leiba.
