Doctors of the World is looking for Volunteer Outreach Workers (non-medical) to inform vulnerable migrants in various parts of London about their rights with respect to accessing healthcare and the Project: London clinic if they are having difficulties. Applicants should be available for several months. Full training will be provided. Applicants from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
Essential
- Good social and communication skills
- Non-judgmental attitude and behaviour, and confidence in working with people from diverse backgrounds
- Commitment to alleviating social exclusion by providing access medical assistance
- Fluency in English
Desirable
- Previous experience in working with vulnerable people such as migrants or the homeless is an asset
- Fluency in other languages
Responsibilities Include:
- Giving talks and presentations to community groups and NGOs
- Raising awareness of Project:London services
- Conducting community-based outreach, including leafleting and postering
- Identifying key community groups and NGOs
- Contributing ideas for future outreach activities
- Proactive promotion of Doctors of the World and Project: London Outreach workers prepare an individualised outreach plan which depends on the volunteer’s links with local communities, organisations and places of worship. Outreach activities can be formal or informal depending on the target communities and the individual volunteer’s skills and interests.
