Praxis is a membership organisation advancing the human rights and social justice of people displaced by war, conflict, impoverishment and environmental degradation. This is achieved through the development of immigrant communities and empowerment of individuals from these communities.
Praxis is located in Pott Street, London E2 0EF. Among its many activities, Praxis provides advice to 'new residents' in the Bethnal Green area. This includes welfare, housing, legal advice and advice on how to access health services. It also runs projects supporting specific groups, such as Rwandans or Ethiopians. Their service users come from a diverse range of communities within East London and come from Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe.
The Project:London clinic is based at the Praxis premises. The clinic is open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 1 - 5pm.
Kalayaan: Justice for migrant domestic workers
Kalayaan is a specialist organisation which provides advice and information to migrant domestic workers in the UK.
Kalayaan is located at St Francis of Assisi Community Centre, 13 Hippodrome Place, Holland Park, W11 4SF. Kalayaan lobbies and advocates on behalf of migrant domestic workers as well as providing legal advice and English classes.
DOW UK works with Kalayaan on outreach activities with a nurse and support workers on the third Sunday of every month from 1-4pm.
Open Doors, City and Hackney NHS Trust
Open Doors is a specialist service designed to the meet the health needs of women working in the sex industry. The team conducts outreach with street-based sex workers in the boroughs of City & Hackney, and indoor outreach in London Boroughs of Tower Hamlets, Newham, City and Hackney. Open Doors runs sexual health clinics for sex workers at Ambrose King Centre, Royal London Hospital, and the Sexual Health Centre at Barts Hospital.
The Project:London team works together with Open Doors at their sexual health clinics to facilitate access to mainstream NHS services for their service users.
The Hackney Migrant Centre is a service offering professional advice and support to migrants regardless of their nationality or immigration status. Hackney Migrant Centre activities include a weekly drop-in for advice and social activities, free immigration and welfare advice, medical advice with help in accessing NHS health services and a nutritious meal.
Project:London conducts Outreach sessions at the Hackney Migrant Centre to provide advice and practical support with accessing NHS health services.
CLASH (Central London Action for Street Health)
CLASH is a specialist initiative of the Camden Primary Care Trust providing HIV prevention and sexual health promotion services for sex workers in central London. As well as conducting outreach in flats, saunas and bars, CLASH runs two sexual health clinics for female sex workers.
Project:London attends the Friday sexual health clinic to facilitate access of CLASH service users to mainstream NHS services, including help with GP registration and assistance in claiming help with health costs.
Past partners:
Providence Row is a local charity providing services for the homeless population of the City and East end of London. Their aim is to provide a place of refuge for anyone who is vulnerable or destitute so that they can transform their lives.
Providence Row is located at 82 Wentworth Street, Aldgate, E1 7SA. Providence Row provides showers, laundry services and breakfast. It also provides access to specialist advice on benefits, housing and drug and alcohol misuse. Its service users range from homeless British citizens to members of the accession states, to refugees and asylum seekers.
Project:London provided weekly outreach sessions nurses and support workers.
The 999 Club offers immediate support in any situation by providing links with professional agencies, and giving friendship, help and advice to the most vulnerable in the community. It is staffed entirely by local people, who know the misery caused by homelessness, poverty and drug/alcohol abuse at first hand. Project:London conducted weekly outreach activities with nurses and support workers.
The 999 Club Deptford is based at 21 Deptford Broadway, London, SE8 4PA. They provide food and advice, laundry services, a crèche service and needle exchange facilities.
