In the early hours of Thursday 22nd July 2010, 49 cyclists set off from London after months of training and fundraising. After cycling up the narrow, winding hills of Kent and through beautiful French villages, the group reached the Eiffel Tower on Sunday July 25. The sporty group, including 25 French and Brussels cyclists, successfully completed the 310 kilometre challenge in the annual Doctors of the World UK London to Paris Bike Ride, raising money for Doctors of the World's work in London as well as overseas.
"I have so many great memories but finishing in Paris and seeing the Eiffel Tower was the perfect way to end. I really felt quite emotional by the end of it all. I was so pleased I was able to support Doctors of the World and their vital work; it is a great and important charity." Dr Davina Sharma.
"Completing this bike ride made me realise how all too often people tend to focus on trivial things and we forget what is really important like helping those who are less fortunate both here and abroad. When I saw the Eiffel Tower I was so thrilled! " David Cardesin.
Doctors of the World UK would like to thank all 49 cyclists for all their hard work, not only during the 3 days of cycling, but also for all their effort put into training and fundraising prior to the bike ride. Your great efforts are very valuable to our work in making health a human right.
"The welcome we received as a group on arriving at the finish was amazing and I felt surprised and delighted that I had made it. Doctors of the World UK are a great charity who I hope to do some work with in the future and ideally this will be the start of things to come" Stephen Shepherd.
